Very large meals, certain foods, obesity, smoking, or pregnancy are usually the cause of heartburn. There are natural stomach acid neutralizers and several home remedies to relieve acidity. However, check with your doctor if you suffer from acidity three or four times a week for several weeks.

Drink some water – As soon as you start feeling discomfort drink a glass of water. The water will dilute the acid and will make it go back to the stomach.

teacupGinger to relieve acidity – Make yourself a cup of ginger tea by mixing a teaspoon of freshly grated ginger root in a cup of boiling water. Let stand for 10 minutes and then drink.

Anise infusion – Another good home remedy for acidity is anise. Add two teaspoons of anise to a cup of boiling water. Let stand for 10 minutes, then drink.

Cinnamon and cardamom – Other infusions that also help to relieve acidity are those of cinnamon and cardamom. Add a teaspoon of either one to a cup of boiling water and let it stand for a few minutes, then drink.

Prevent acidity with fenugreek seeds – Swallow 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds with water or juice before meals.

Avoid lying down or bending over after meals – Eat at least two hours before bedtime.

Mint infusion – Add fresh chopped mint leaves to a cup of boiling water. Let stand for a few minutes and sip slowly after meals.

Cloves - Suck on a clove for natural acidity relief.

Lettuce tea for heartburn relief - Mix 8 ounces of water with a large leaf of lettuce. Blend and drink slowly.

Acupressure to Relieve Acidity

Apply pressure for a minute with the tip of the thumb in points:

Nei-Guan, located at the center of your palm, 2 inches above the wrist.

Hegu, located at the top of the hand in the depression between the thumb and index finger.

Zhong-Tan, located in the middle of the two nipples.

Repeat.
