Home Remedies to Relieve an Earache
29 July 2009
Ear pain is usually a problem in children but can also be present in adults. After a cold, fluid can build up in the Eustachian tube, a small tunnel that runs from the middle ear to the throat. This accumulation of fluid is what causes the pain.
Tips to Relieve Ear Pain at Home:
Baby oil or mineral oil: Heat the oil in hot water. Put a few drops in the affected ear.
Hydrogen peroxide: Put about 3 or 5 drops of hydrogen peroxide in the affected ear every 3 or 4 hours.
Spicy food: A spicy chicken soup or a bowl of chili can be very useful to drain the mucus and relieve the pressure.
Apply heat: Grab a towel soaked in hot water and put it on the affected ear.
Onion: Extract the middle part of 1/2 onion so that the center is hollow. Warm it in the oven and is apply on the affected ear so that the hollow part covers the ear.
Qigong is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine that can help to relieve an earache. Make a V with your index and middle fingers and place them just beneath the ear. Press and move the fingers upward. Relax fingers and move them down. Repeat 36 times.
Acupressure: Press and massage the point that lies between the pinky finger and the ring finger using the forefinger on the bottom and the thumb on the top.
Garlic: Peel a garlic clove and dip in olive oil. Place it on the ear opening but not all the way inside. Leave throughout the night unless it irritates the skin.
