Foods That Raise Hemoglobin
29 July 2009
Eating iron-rich foods can help treat iron-deficiency anemia.
Pumpkins are rich in vitamins and folic acid another vitamin that, if deficient, could result in anemia.
Meat, especially liver.
Clams have an even higher iron content than liver. Twenty small steamed clams contain 25 millligrams of iron.
Vegetables, especially spinach and broccoli
Breads and cereals fortified with iron can raise hemoglobin since iron is necessary to the formation of hemoglobin.
Carrot, beets, and orange juice: Add equal portions of beet juice, orange juice, and carrot juice. Drink before breakfast every morning during 9 days in a row. Repeat the following month.
Tamarind leaves tea: Very good for raising hemoglobin.
Guavas: Guavas are great for preventing anemia, and it is believed that they may also prevent leukemia.
Zucchini: This is another very effective food for treating anemia. Eat in salads or steam cooked.
For better iron absorption, include vitamin C with your meals and avoid calcium, coffee, and tea.
