Home Remedies to Stop Snoring
30 July 2009
Snoring occurs when the tongue, upper throat, palate, and the uvula vibrate against the tonsils and lymph. One of the reasons why a person snores is because he/she is over weight. Other reasons are having a cold, allergies, drinking too much alcohol before going to sleep, or smoking.
Extra pillows: Lie on extra pillows.
Sleep on your side: If you sleep face up, the tongue and palate fall behind the throat and block the air duct.
Mint gargles: Doing gargles before bedtime is effective if the snoring is due to a cold or an allergy. Add a drop of peppermint oil to a glass of cold water. Gargle.
Collar: Using a collar like that used by people who have hurt their neck will lift up the chin, and the air channel will remain open.
Inhale and drink nettle tea: If the snoring is due to allergies, drink a cup of nettle tea. Put a teaspoon of dried nettle leaves in a cup of boiling water. Cover and let stand for 10 minutes. Strain and drink before bedtime.
Lose weight: Lose at least 10% of your body weight.
Quit smoking: Smoking is a tremendously harmful habit. Quitting smoking not only will help you stop snoring but will benefit all areas of your life.
Shoes: This remedy may sound funny but you could give it a try. Put the shoes you used during the day in the shape of a cross under the header of your bed.
Rue and olive oil: Put 50 g of rue in a dark bottle and cover with olive oil. Let macerate for 14 days. Rub the bridge of the nose and the neck before going to sleep.
A key: This is a very old remedy and as funny as that of the shoes. Put an iron key under the pillow.
