Important! Always consult your doctor before trying these or any home remedies. "Natural" does not mean it is safe for everybody.
Tinctures are plant extracts prepared with alcohol instead of water. They are very concentrated. To prepare a tincture at home, use vodka 43% alcohol. The common recipe for making a tincture is to add one ounce of fresh or dried, chopped herb to five ounces of distilled alcohol, and leave it for six weeks.
Tips for making a tincture:
- Seal container hermetically
- Do not prepare tincture on expensive furniture
- Mark the tincture with the name of the herb used and the date it was left to stand.
- Shake the mixture every two or three days to aid absorption
- Do not expose tincture to direct sunlight
- The use of a dark, glass container is recommended
- Add more distilled alcohol if you notice the amount of the liquid has lowered
- Store in a fresh place
- Doses for tinctures vary depending on the herb used
- Keep out of the reach of children
You may also prepare tinctures using apple cider vinegar instead of alcohol. The instructions are the same.
